BSOD: 0x0000008e

*Pardon my newbieness*

After leaving my computer on for the night, as I often do, I came back the next morning to find that my computer had frozen. Since then, I have been getting many errors, including: applications failing to start, the computer hanging and/or crashing, and the thing that worries me most, the frequent Blue Screen of Death labeled 0x0000008e.

Since this problem, which first happen two days ago, I have searched all around the internet, tried updating my bios, loaded in all different modes, and done a RAM check - all of these resulting in no change. (My System-Restore didn't have any points saved, for some reason...)

Also, I have tried repairing my OS using this thread but there was no option to do it. This resulted in me trying to reinstall my OS, only for another, different BSOD to come up.

Some of my system specs: (Tell me if I need to add something)

Hello and welcome to Techspot.

One of your minidumps crashes with a hardware error.

The rest crash with memory corruption.

I think you may have a ram problem.

Go HERE and follow the instructions for testing your ram.

Okay, I'll run the test again tonight... using your suggestions on how to do it exactly....

Is there nothing else that could cause this?? Like a software problem or something? Oh, how I hope....

It could still be a ram problem, because some faulty ram can pass memtest.

Can you try a known working stick of ram?

If it turns out that it`s not a ram problem, then you will need to diagnose what is the faulty hardware.

This can prove very time consuming, and difficult.

I am a Newbie

I am using HP Pavilion dv9000 Laptop with Windows XP Media Center Edition. When ever I try to run VOIP software e.g. ZOIPER or try to turn up/down the volume I get BSOD with no file mentioned just the error says

0X0000008E(0XC0000005, 0X00200020, 0XB7E096B4, 0X00000000)

Kindly help me what it means?

It would be good if you could start your own thread because the one you attached to is over 2 years old.

That being said, 0x8E errors are nearly always hardware compatibility issues (which sometimes means a driver issue or a need for a BIOS upgrade).

The thing is we don't have enough information at this time. Access your Event Viewer and post the information that you find.
