Well, start with a good CPU, like 4800+x2, but that's too much, need to save for video cards, so AMD 4400+ X2, great CPU for anything.

And a mobo, Asus A8N323-SLI Deluxe sold out at newegg.

Memory, OCZ Titanium 2gb Kit 2-3-2-5 timings, awsome.

Video cards, Two evga 7800GTX.

And a RAID 0 aray of two Barracuda 160 gb Hard drives Not as fast as rapters, but nice. SATA2 and NCQ.

The Liteon DVD-RW, I don't like my NEC.

Need a nice case, but it is a matter of personal taste. I like Lian Li, the best cooling case, so Lain Li Black ATX Mid-tower(fish?)

And power it up with some juice, OCz 600w PSU

That adds up to almost $1900, Good speakers, monitor and keayboard/mouse will run over your $2200. You may have that I don't know.

Logitech Keayboard/mouse $50, needs a better mouse.
Gaming Mouse $35
5.1 speakers Kilpsch, sure to sound awsome, $299
You need a 19" CRT like this $219. Better off getting that local.

I'm too $2500 here, gess you need to skimp on something.
A lesser CPU, one video card, or loose the speakers and your there.
That's all first rate stuff, and going to perform great together. Wish I could pay for my cart at newegg right now.

I like this build but I think you could skimp on the whole raid thing. Raid is better for people who really need it like someone running a server. For most computer users its not really necessary. Also, I would probably wait a bit before investing into an SLI system. Most mobos don't support dual 16x pci express. I'd look into Asus, Abit, or DFI non sli boards unless I really had to have SLI now. And wait for the next generation SLI boards to come to mass market.

I like both systems. Sound card is great, but on board is good. I think the RAID 0 with 160gb drives is faster, and will last longer. The 165 is the best deal in dual cores, overclocks to 4800+ easy.

I don't think the a8n sli 32 is worth it, it's overpriced and hard to find, and it actually is SLOWER than a normal sli board(like the a8n sli, deluxe or premium).
Quote:
The explanation of the newer platform being slower comes from one architectural feature of the nForce4 SLI X16. To ensure high-speed communication between the chipset’s North and South bridges, NVIDIA had to reduce the width of the HyperTransport bus the chipset connects to the CPU with and to use two 8-bit channels instead of the ordinary nForce4’s two 16-bit channels there. The smaller bandwidth of the CPU-chipset link does not show up in games, but the performance of applications that actively use the system bus, like data archiving utilities for example, may suffer a lot. We are not even sure the nForce4 SLI X16 will offer any advantage in the next generation of PC games, despite its two full-width PCI Express x16 slots, because the narrow HyperTransport bus will probable be a bottleneck. Being the first chipset with the PCI Express x16 + x16 formula, the NVIDIA nForce4 SLI X16 is interesting and unique, but it is no better than the ordinary nForce4 SLI, at least in current applications.

ahh thanks for the information about the X16 lane vnf.. i didnt bother lookin into that since i jus wanted to find an X16 lane. i was actually thinking of the DFI UT LP NF4-Ultra board as the 2nd choice for his motherboard. im not too fond of the Asus A8N-SLI line heh..

what do u think of the other parts? It would be my ideal system hehe..

I like it, I've never heard of a "Seagate DiamondMax 10 200GB Sata 1" though.
Which is it? Seagate or Maxtor, oh wait they're going to merge... lol.
