SIS, Abit, Samsung and Rambus team up

ONE OF THE MOST beleaguered intellectual property companies in the cosmos has scored a major design win with Abit, as Silicon Integrated Systems (SIS) finally went for its R658 chip set.
SIS said motherboard maker Abit will use the R658 chipset – which was jointly developed with Samsung and Rambus, in the SI7 motherboard.

The motherboard is, explained SIS, "designed for power users seeking PCs with the highest performance and best features". In combination with the Pentium 4 microprocessor, explained SIS in a statement, RDRAM delivers high bandwidth and "fast and smooth" computing experiences.

Abit similarly waxed lyrical. The SI7 mobo will let high end folk use Gigabit LAN, Serial ATA, Firewire and 1200MHz RDRAM RIMMs.
