Gateway Laptop "Setup Can Not detect a hard drive"

Hey guys....HELP....i just bought a 30 GB Toshiba Hard Drive for a gateway 450sx4 laptop....i installed it ...and put the ORIGINAL Gateway Microsoft 2000 CD in and it went through process and got to screen stating 1. Install Windows 2. Repair Windows and 3.Esc without repair. I chose 1 and hit enter and it stated "SETUP DID NOT DETECT A HARD DRIVE" what do i do now?????? help...PLEASE......

Make sure that you connected the hard drive properly.

I have done that....followed it to the "T" and its still not recognizing hard drive...and its a NEW HARD DRIVE
