Help with cs 1.5

I'm wanting to play cs 1.5 again for some god awful reason.

This is basically for reasurrance: I need to install HL then the HL updater and then the cs file correct?

Please remember this is just to play 1.5 and not source. File names and/or links to tutorials would be appreciated. I'v tried googling this to no avail. Maybe they dont even play 1.5 anymore?

Do you own 1.5? I believe that upgrading to 1.6 is free, all you need to do is download and install Steam, register your CD-Key, and you should be able to download 1.6, Halflife, and all those other old engine games. If you don't own the game, then the only thing you can do is either buy it or get it illegally with an illegal Steam client, which I am pretty sure you won't be allowed talking about here.

Buy the game, its like 10 bucks.

First, I'm sure that you're aware of it, you can only play 1.5 offline and 1.6 online.
Second, you don't need to install HL to play 1.5. I have a registered copy of 1.3 on CD which doesn't require HL to be installed. If you can find the FULL installation of 1.4 or 1.3, download it. Then go to fileplanet and find the UPGRADE installation to 1.5.
Honestly, it's not worth the downloading to play 1.5. If you're not aware of this already, there is a Non-Steam edition of 1.6 which allows you to play offline. However, because it is not endorsed by Steam, offline 1.6 isn't exactly direct to the public. But if you would like to know where to download it, please feel free to PM me.

Valve only officially supports CS 1.6 and CS 1.6 servers. You'll need to update to Steam/CS1.6 in order to play online.

This may not cost you anything, depending on your CD KEY. Most people simply have to download Steam, create a new Steam Account and register the old HL cd-key. From here, you should have HL, HLM and CS1.6 available and Steam will install/patch these and keep them current.

If you want to simply it, you can download Steam with Half-Life/CS 1.6 included at:

It depends upon what you mean by "obtaining" a CD KEY.

It's not hard at all- you just have to have actually purchased the key vs. using a pirated version in the past. If so, shame on you.

If you have an actual bought copy, you should be able to xfer this and play CS1.6 (CS1.6 is free to HL owners). You just have to use your actual HL key to activate these games in Steam.
