Which sensors monitor which hardware?

Hey everyone, I recently got Speedfan, because I heard it was reliable and I was looking for a program to accurately tell me my hardware temps.

The only problem though, is that there are about 6 temperatures, and I'm confused about which one is which.

Here are the ones I'm confused about:

Sensor: Temp1
Bus: ISA
Chip: ACPI
I'm led to believe that this is the PSU?

Sensor: Temp1
Bus: ISA
Chip: IT8712F
I think this is the CPU because this is the temperature that changes the most during games, apps, etc.

Well, what I'm trying to ask is, are my indications correct? Speedfan doesn't label them for me, so I have to decide for myself what they are, and I need some help doing that.

Thanks in advance

Alright, it says my CPU temp is 39C on idle.. and it never changes?

I'm still confused. And even if it is 39C, why is it so hot? I just installed
a new zalman hsf and alot of people with the same processor had idle temps of 29C.

Is this reading from speed fan?

What thermal grease did you use with the Zalman?

39°c is not too hot for idle, what happens under load?

Im using AS5 with my Zalman.

And I know 38C isn't hot, but everyone else who bought it gets idle temps of 26-29 using the same thermal paste and processor.

One thing though.. I didnt install the backplate that came with it, since it required me to unscrew my motherboard which I'm not doing because its a huge pain.

I don't think the back plate will make a difference, it only strengthens the motherboard for the monster hanging on it.
Whats your MoBo ambient temps and your room temps?
I would think you would get slightly better temps than 39°c tho.

Mobo temps range from 29-30C.

Room temps are normal.. no eccessive heating or anything, probably about 75F.

I'm just really confused.. I've got 2 intake fans in the front, 1 intake on top, 1 outtake in the back, all my expansion slots open except for the videocard..

Shouldn't my pc be a little cooler..?

Personally, at 39c, I don't see where you have a problem.

What ver. speed fan?
Does your BIOS report temps?
What are your OC spec's, have you upped your cpu voltage and such?
How is your system running?

Speed fan is just about the most accurate temps software I've found
but it is also the most dangerous and hardest to understand.

When you have speed fan running, there is a configure button, upper right,
that allows you to un-check temps you don't want to monitor.

Also, if you notice, before doing anything, when you first start speed fan,
there will be a temp icon on the task bar. Being that cpu temps are going
to be the priority temps to watch. You can also go to the charts tab to get a chart view of specific temps.

What I did as a short cut, was to use pc wizard & speed fan simultainiously,
and watched for matching temp variances to decide which temp was which in speed fan.

The one that got me was figuring out what remote temp was.
I believe it's my nVidia vga temp, 6800 gt.

So if you'll notice you'll see I use 4 programs, 5 if you count my BIOS
to decide my accurate temps.
1.Everest (full ver, home is not avial. any more)
2.Abit EQ
3.Speed fan
4.PC wizard 2006

Speedfan version is 4.27,
I haven't OCed at all,
my BIOS does report temps,
and my system runs fine except for Quake 4 sometimes (weird graphical glitches, I think that's due to overheating, even though it doesn't do that for any other game.)

Check this recent post by Howard HERE
He has a link there about thermal greases I'm finding very helpful.
I would try some of those suggestions.

Yeah, I've already tried all that stuff, maybe the AS5 will just take a little more time to settle is all.

Thanks for all your help and patience!

No problem!!!
You may be interest in lapping!?
This is my next attempt at temp managment.
Basically mirror finish on cpu and heat sink.

Let us know how things settle in...
