ACER Laptop startup problem

My ACER 5000 laptop froze while on-line so I shut off using the power button. Now it will only get as far as the Acer screen when I restart. It doesn't make it to Windows. Any suggestions?
 
Safe mode not an option

Nothing works when teh ACer screen comes up. The bottom left of the screen says "Press F2 to enter setp". I tried that and the text switches to Please wait, which again, goes nowhere
