From reading the article it sounds more like the dialect rather than the accent. The accent can be reasonably pleasant but also quite horrid especially with broad weegie dialect being used...

And those are fairly tame examples.
The favorite Aberdonian one explained to foreign students is "Far aboots ye fae" (said "furry boot ye fay") which means "Where are you from?"
