Audio feedback problems (AC97 chipset)

Does anyone know why I am receiving PC component noise through my speakers (like disk drive mouse cursor movement etc). This site says that I should update my drivers but I am not sure what driver to update as the manual says that I have a VIA VT82C686B CPO and an AC97 inbuilt sound card. Should I update the drivers or is there some other fix. Oh yeah, I am running XP.
