ATI Ships One Millionth DX9 VPU
Congrats to ATI for this feat, wonder what Nvidia has up their sleeve right now to retake the crown, gotta love competition. Here is the full press release.
ATI Technologies Inc. today reached a remarkable milestone, shipping its one millionth DirectX® 9 compliant cinematic visual processing unit (VPU). One million users are now able to experience cinematic-quality graphics and blistering performance with RADEON™ 9700- and RADEON™ 9500-based products powered by the world’s fastest and most advanced VPUs. ATI and its board partners continue to be the only source for DirectX® 9 graphics products. |

It seems that Nvidia got complacent, but the computer industry moves so fast…Warren Spector said that computers increase their power exponentially (I guess he meant compared to other industry sectors). The original Hercules team mentioned that they threw the towel because of the cutthroat competition; you really have to be aggressive just to keep up. I’m not sure how big the Nvidia company is, though. Intel and Hewlett-Packard survived their blunders, but if you’re not one of the big boys, then you can’t afford to make many mistakes. It seems that no bet is sure, according to some here at Techspot.
