BSOD - STOP 0x0000008E and 0x00000024
For the last few weeks have been plagued by BSOD with two stop messages.
First, 0x0000008E (0xC0000005, 0x30303030, 0xA870451C, 0x00000000 ) and 0x00000024 (0x001902FE, 0xA850F138, 0xA850EE34, 0x30303030 ) The third string in the brackets varies. No problems in Safe Mode. Have replaced memory to no effect. Tried deleting and recreating Pagefile. All drivers updated to latest versions. Using eXtendia Antivirus and Outpost Pro firewall 2.6 (upgrade to 3.0 disastrous). Read that Outpost can cause BSOD so removed it - problem seems less frequent but has not gone away. Any ideas, please? Minidump attached. I'm not a techie! |

Hello and welcome to Techspot.
All your minidumps crash at avkfsavp.sys. I can`t find any reliable info for this driver. do you recognise it? What antivirus programme do you use? Regards Howard

BSOD: 0x0000008E and 0x00000024
Hi Howard
Many thanks for the response. This file relates to Kaspersky (eXtendia) Antivirus so at least I know now what's causing it, if not why. For the uninitiated, how do you read the minidumps? I have only managed to get code. Regards John |

BSOD: 0x0000008E and 0x00000024
Thanks again, Howard.
Have just received an extraordinary reply from Boomerang Software who market the Kaspersky/eXtendia antivirus package, which explains the problem but does not say much for their customer service. I live in the U.K. but I guess the lawyers will be sharpening their pencils in the U.S. Regards John "On Thursday February 16 a new virus or rootkit or corrupted GData virus definition file of some sort apeared in the virus definitions update download stream and this caused machines all over Canada and America to crash. The quick solution is to do a System Restore to the configuration of your machine a day or more prior to when you did the virus definition download after Feb 15. So now you should do the System Restore to Feb 15 or earlier. In the future, immediately after when doing a virus definition update download, do a system Restore to the configuration of your machine a day or two prior to the date of the download. As a consequence of these recent problems with GData, the Boomerang S/W management has made the policy decision to abandon GData and go with the new Norman anti-virus engine. You can download this for an additional $4.95 ($41 if you buy it off the shelf yourself) by sending a request to sales@boomerangsoftware.com and they will provide you the download link. You will still be able to use the GData engine if you want, but because of the recent problems it has been decided that it is better to go with Norman." |
