need help with an exercise

Hello everybody,i need help with this



They finished sooner than we had expected.

i have to fill in the blanks using "take".

They didn't ................... we had expected to finish.

the first sentence is :
1-They finished sooner than we had expected.

i have to fill in the blanks (which is just below) using the verb "take" and the sentence must be like that:
They didn't ................... we had expected to finish.

Complete the second sentence so that it has a similar meaning to the first sentence. Use the word given to complete each sentence.You must use between two and five words. Do not change the word given.

1-They finished sooner than we had expected.

(the word given is "take"

2-They didn't ....................... we had expected to finish.

so, i have to fill in the blank with the word "take".
i hope it is more clear now..

"They didn't take as long as we had expected to finish." is a good answer. It's probably the one I'd go with.
