ECS to launch $599 notebook

Digitimes is reporting that ECS has announced a Transmeta powered notebook set to break competition's price barriers at $599, about a hundred dollars cheaper than a Celeron equipped machine offered by Dell. Expected by the end of this month, the notebook will carry an internal battery and will not be part of the Desknote line that are sold as barebones for the most part.

The article also gives a hint that many similar announcements are expected to follow as other taiwanesse manufacturers are planning to ship similarly priced notebooks soon.
