Formating hardrive and installing windows?

Could someone please tell me how to format a hardrive and install windows on to it because for my work experience I need to know them as a minimum.

Which version of Windows?
Step 1: Put in Windows bootable CD.
Step 2: Follow instructions.

Google: installing windows.

windows xp, what about the formating of the hardrive isnt it needed to install windows or something

During installation it'll be an option to format a hard disk drive.
