Home Network Okay, but no internet sharing

Hallo
I need help, Please.
I have learned alot about home networks from this forum and so far I got it right, BUT
The internet sharing part is not working.
Here is my setup

2X PC's with XP Pro
Crossover cable
One PC onboard LAN Card and the other Ethernet card
File and Printer sharing okay
SyGate Firewall enabled

Both PC's can ping each other ( 192.168.1.100 and 192.168.1.101)

Is there a problem with the firewall settings and what should it be
Thanks for the help
Martin

have you set up your internet connection to be shared in the properties on your broadband connection, if you need help let me know

Hi
Yes I have checked it again just now. It is setup to allow other users to use this connection, but not to control it.
I have only a dial up connection.
It was working properly until I had to format.
Thanks for the help

To share the internet,
One machine has to know it's sharing it
One machine has to know where to get it from.

but as you dont say how you get the Internet, its a little difficult to proceed.

I take it you plan on using XP internet sharing software, well take it from me that it's going to be less hassle to spend a few pounds/bucks on a router and use that, I know, I used to use software but it was flaky and meant that one PC had to be on all the time.

To use a router
Plug it into the internet following the instructions
Plug your machines into the router to get the internet.

PC 1 has a internal 56k modem in. PC2 is connected via crossover cableto PC 1
PC1 has a Ethernet LAN card PCI and PC2's card is onboard. I did not use a router or hub in the past aswell, but is seems to my I must get one
I used XP's cd to setup the LAN and internet and file sharing.
People speak about a cable modem. What is it. Sorry but I am not big with al this technical stuff.
Thanks
Martin

you need to enable ICS internet connection sharing
go to each card and set to dynamic ip address
you need xp in first machine to act as a dhcp server
it will give the other machine an ip address
past that i don't know how the dialup modem will handle the protocal
the xp ics wizard may ask you what type of connection you are using
be warned with dialup your internet will slow to snails pace and then some

sorry to here your on dialup

Internet connection sharing is enabled.
It was working fine untill I format my machine and since then I cannot get the settings right.
Maybe it is time for a hub or router.
Thanks fot helping
