pc did a system restore on it's own

pc did a system restore on it's own

I booted up my pc, hit the esc to look at the bios and a window came up about a registry error. I hit the ok and my pc did a system restore. Now in the start menu,programs, all I have is startup, empty. I would like to get into system tools??
I am running an older/spare/second pc with win98se, intel a810e chipset and a p111 800 mhz cpu,512 mb pc100 mem

Try a repair install of XP.
