Help, Laptop slowed to dead stop

I have a Lifebook P5020 and sent it for some hardware repairs (DC-in broken). On return, the laptop is INCREDIBLE slow. I mean just opening a window takes seconds. Bootup is 10 minutes. The hard drive seems to be in contstant access. Here is what I have done.

1) Cleaned and defragged HD (there is 30GB free on a 60GB disk).

2) I ran *4* virus screens and i have attached the EWIDO screen (all it found were some tracking cookies).

3) I ran hijackthis and dont see anything TOO terrible (see attached).

Any ideas? I am beginning to think it is the hard drive that is just near dying ...

Any ideas greatly appreciated.

Gordon

Hm... Just for the heck of it, try Ad-Aware and Spybot S&D

Both are available for free download at http://download.com.

Also try a registry cleaner such as Registry Mechanic.

Have you checked to see what start up apps are running, through MSCONFIG? Or looked at task manager? Maybe something is running and taking up too many system resources.

Who is the manufacturer of the herd drive?

Find out in the Device Manager. Here's how to do that in WinXP:

-= Right-click on My Computer

-= Click Properties

-= Click the "Hardware" tab

-= Click on "Device Manager"

-= Expand "Disk Drives", there it should show the manufacturer and model.

Once you've done that, get the diagnostic software from that manufacturer.

I'll post a few links for the more popular manufacturers:

Seagate: http://www.seagate.com/support/seatools/

Samsung: http://www.samsung.com/support/b2c_hdd_troubleshoot.htm

Hitachi: http://www.hitachigst.com/hdd/support/download.htm

Samsung's isn't a program, but a troubleshooting guide. If your drive is either a samsung or some manufacturer I didn't post then let me know.
