"burn failed" error?
I have been burning DVD's for some time now but beginning about 4 days ago I started receiving this "burn failed" error. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the shrink program and nero but that hasn't helped. I'm not a computer whiz at all and I have no idea what to do. I'm so frustrated that I want to scream! I would be most grateful if someone could help me. Thanks!
Here is the error log: 1A20-0202-0330-1727-0458-7779 Windows XP 5.1 IA32 WinAspi: - ahead WinASPI: File 'C:\Program Files\Ahead\nero\Wnaspi32.dll': Ver=2.0.1.59, size=160016 bytes, created 12/16/2003 8:18:06 PM Nero version: 6.3.1.17 (Nero Express) Recorder: <PHILIPS DVD+-RW DVD8801> Version: 2D06 - HA 1 TA 0 - 6.3.1.17 Adapter driver: <atapi> HA 1 Drive buffer : 2048kB Bus Type : via Inquiry data (1) -> ATAPI, detected: ATAPI Connected to MMC as unknown drive with class-nr : 11 Drive is autodetected - recorder class: DVD+R9 DL recorder CD-ROM: <PHILIPS DVD+-RW DVD8801 >Version: 2D06 - HA 1 TA 0 - 6.3.1.17 Adapter driver: <atapi> HA 1 === Scsi-Device-Map === DiskPeripheral : HDS728080PLAT20 atapi Port 0 ID 0 DMA: On CdRomPeripheral : PHILIPS DVD+-RW DVD8801 atapi Port 1 ID 0 DMA: On === CDRom-Device-Map === PHILIPS DVD+-RW DVD8801 E: CDRom0 ======================= AutoRun : 1 Excluded drive IDs: WriteBufferSize: 74448896 (0) Byte ShowDrvBufStat : 0 BUFE : 0 Physical memory : 509MB (522224kB) Free physical memory: 88MB (90244kB) Memory in use : 82 % Uncached PFiles: 0x0 Use Static Write Speed Table: 0 Use Inquiry : 1 Global Bus Type: default (0) Check supported media : Disabled (0) 3.6.2006 UDF/ISO compilation 10:10:25 AM #1 Phase 112 File dlgbrnst.cpp, Line 1845 DVD-Video files reallocation started 10:10:25 AM #2 Phase 114 File dlgbrnst.cpp, Line 1845 DVD-Video files reallocation completed (no file modified) 10:10:25 AM #3 Text 0 File Isodoc.cpp, Line 6065 Iso document burn settings ------------------------------------------ Determine maximum speed : FALSE Simulate : FALSE Write : TRUE Finalize CD : TRUE Multisession : FALSE Burning mode : DAO Mode : 1 ISO Level : 1 (Max. of 11 = 8 + 3 char) Character set : ISO 9660 Joliet :FALSE Allow pathdepth more than 8 directories : FALSE Allow more than 255 characters in path : FALSE Write ISO9660 ;1 file extensions : TRUE 10:10:25 AM #4 Phase 111 File dlgbrnst.cpp, Line 1845 DVD-Video files sorted 10:10:25 AM #5 Text 0 File Reader.cpp, Line 118 Reader running 10:10:25 AM #6 Text 0 File Writer.cpp, Line 124 Writer PHILIPS DVD+-RW DVD8801 running 10:10:25 AM #7 ISO9660GEN -11 File geniso.cpp, Line 3899 First writeable address = 0 (0x00000000) 10:10:25 AM #8 ISO9660GEN -11 File geniso.cpp, Line 3899 First writeable address = 0 (0x00000000) 10:10:25 AM #9 Text 0 File Burncd.cpp, Line 3172 Turn on Disc-at-once, using DVD media 10:10:26 AM #10 Text 0 File DlgWaitCD.cpp, Line 245 Last possible write address on media: 2298495 (510:46.45, 4489MB) Last address to be written: 2286143 (508:01.68, 4465MB) 10:10:26 AM #11 Text 0 File DlgWaitCD.cpp, Line 257 Write in overburning mode: NO (enabled: CD) 10:10:26 AM #12 Text 0 File DlgWaitCD.cpp, Line 2137 Recorder: PHILIPS DVD+-RW DVD8801, Media type: DVD-R Disc Manufacturer: AML - Disc Application Code: 64, Disc Physical Code: 193 10:10:26 AM #13 Text 0 File DlgWaitCD.cpp, Line 418 >>> Protocol of DlgWaitCD activities: <<< ========================================= 10:10:26 AM #14 Text 0 File ThreadedTransferInterface.cpp, Line 813 Setup items (after recorder preparation) 0: TRM_DATA_MODE1 (CTransferItem) 2 indices, index0 (150) not provided original disc pos #0 + 2286144 (2286144) = #2286144/508:1.69 relocatable, disc pos for caching/writing not required/required, no patch infos -> TRM_DATA_MODE1, 2048, config 0, wanted index0 0 blocks, length 2286144 blocks [PHILIPS DVD+-RW DVD8801 ] -------------------------------------------------------------- 10:10:26 AM #15 Text 0 File ThreadedTransferInterface.cpp, Line 984 Prepare recorder [PHILIPS DVD+-RW DVD8801 ] for write in CUE-sheet-DAO DAO infos: ========== MCN: "" TOCType: 0x00; First Edit your post and REMOVE your Nero license # from it !!!!!
Usually a working writer fails (if no media change) from HDD,Cache,temp file clutter, newly installed Software coflicts and too many running processes. So clean up your HDD, Clean the heads on your Writer and continue with the troubleshooting . Also while you at it connfirm in Nero's infotool that the ASPI layers( 2) are not corrupted. |

are you using the same media or have you recently changed media? the most common cause of bad burns is bad media. another possibility is that since you are obviously backing up Movies and using a DEAD, OUT OF DATE program to do it with. Shrink WAS a great program. but it's development was stopped TWO years ago. so the most likely reason for y9our problems is that shrink cannot handle some new forms of protection that have been used since shrink stopped being developed.

And of course you are burning movies for your own personal backing up purposes as techspot doesn't condone piracy of any type!

it could be the actual media fault
