Hey crew,

I'm going to be running benchmarks on a device with Monta Vista Linux installed, with the possiblity of Red Hat Linux being installed later. My Linux knowledge is very n00b and I hoped someone could recommend some benchmarking applications.

I'm looking at all aspects of the device - memory,CPU, data read/write speeds (similar to SYSMARK, 3D MARK, etc)- as well as making sure all the hardware is reported correctly (in a similar style to CPU-Z on the PC).

Any help would be spanktastically gobbled up!

What are you going to do with the benchmark results?

AFAIK ther are no "universal" benchmark utilities for Unix. Mostly because there are a lot of diferent versions and no "universal" systems. Usually you benchmark for some specific application.

Bonnie(++) are fairly standard filesystem/disk benchmarking things. x11perf and xbench to test the X video system (2D).

You see reported hardware in dmesg output.

ya i don't really know any. closest thing that i know of is you can type "glxgears" in the terminal and see how many fps your computer does for some 3d gears.
