Messenger BETA/LIVE - Cutting my ADSL Connection
Hey,
OK - ADSL Netgear DG814 Messenger BETA/LIVE - whatever it's called today. I can use Messenger for various periods of time and then all of a sudden my connection goes. First I notice that internet doesnt work - then Messenger signs out. My internet connection doesnt come back on until I reboot my router - or if im quick enough to connect to it, I can go into Gateway Status and hit Refresh. Then my connection comes back up again. I have uninstalled Messenger BETA and put 7.5 back on... no problems. Then install BETA again and then after however long it cuts. The times vary. Ive uninstalled and reinstalled BETA and 7.5 about 10 times - and every time BETA cuts my connection. So I'm pretty sure it's BETA that's causing it! Anyone had/having this problem. I've done all the obvious things like upgraded the firmware on my router, disabled power save on my NIC, upgraded drivers on my NIC. But, like I say - each time BETA is installed - it cuts. So all fingers point that way. Any help greatly appreciated. |

I would have to say to try downloading the new Messenger directly from Microsofts site. Maybe the Beta version you kept downloading had a bug in it.
Let me know if it works for ya or not. Messenger Live |

Generally using a BETA version of ANYTHING is not recomended unless you are an IT specialist or programmer since they are filled with bugs and unless you know what to do, they can cause some troubles.
Like Dustin said, just download the official messenger and wait untill a new non beta version is released before updating. Hope this helps, Regards, Korrupt |

I have the exact same problem with my SpeedStream SS2624 router. I thought it might be just my computer so I installed the new Messenger LIVE on my laptop and it did it over the wireless network as well. Not many people talking about this problem online yet. Haven't seen many forums discussing it.
I'll keep searching and hope and pray I find something before I drive myself crazy (short drive too). -Mani |

WOHOO! Someone else with the problem!
I've done exactly the same too - used a laptop connected wirelessly - via Access Point into my Netgear Router - same problem. This is almost like a DoS attack. Messenger LIVE is hammering the TCP connections... Open a command prompt and type; netstat -ap tcp This will show you all the open TCP connections going out of your machine. I'm gonna do this tonight - as im at work at the moment! I posted this problem on the Messenger LIVE forum - but no-one has replied. one word - Microshaft altheman - Connection Test - I havent tried this. But what will it achieve? I know I am connected.
