rundll32.exe

Computer noob

I've googled this and found out that it is essential to Windows, so I obviously need to keep it. But it is constantly using all of my cpu (100%), and I am wondering if there is any way to reduce its cpu usage.

Thanks in advance

Rundll32.exe is a windows file, but it can be invoked by spyware or if it`s not in the system32 folder, imitated by spyware.

If it only happens briefly at start up,it`s probably OK.

To rule out the spyware possibility go HERE ,follow the instructions and post an HJT log in the Security and the Web forum.

If that isn`t the cause,I`ve seen rogue printer drivers and Nvidia cards mentioned in the past.

You could try going into msconfig start up and unchecking everything except the Firewall.
