It means if you are posting based on rumors let people know, rather than playing them off as facts or personal expierence.

I have finally went back and finished this game, and looking back at my first reaction to the game in this thread, I have to say that it's maybe not as bad as I first make it to be. I still don't think it's a classic, but the graphics make up for a lot of other shortcomings. I kind of like the level where you had to set up perimiter defenses and defend the scientist, but the best was the Drakk Hive level where it was so dark and kind of scary. Still seems to me like a run, dodge and gun game.

On another issue, I think it should have been a little, or maybe a lot longer. It seems like games are getting more expensive but shorter all the time. I'm sure looking forward to Half-Life 2 as I understand it's going to be pretty long.

Edit; Forgot to mention the MAIN problem I have with this game, the longest load time I think I have ever seen in a game. It detracts a LOT from the game, even a 30 sec. cut scene takes forever and then you wait for another load for the level to start. And the action seems very short, before the next load. Click fast reload when you get killed, what a joke that is.

Slow load times? When I played the game the levels would load in about 5 seconds. Cutscenes, etc were about the same.
I was suprised at how fast they loaded. And yea your right the game isn't a classic. Definately not. I wasn't even a fan of Unreal. Though the graphics and some of the suprises and physics of the game really made me go "ooo!".

I wonder what would make me have such slow load times. I didn't time it, but I would guess a minute to a minute and a half. Even "fast load".

Wow, that IS pretty slow. I'm not sure. Your computer spec's are a lot like mine, and your RAM is faster. I'm only using PC2100 DDR. What speed is computer?

There's another thread here about bugs in the profile with birthdays. I just realized when you asked for the speed, that's not there anymore and I didn't change it. Anyway it's a P4, 3.06. I just can't imagine it loading so slow. I defrag at least twice a month, so it's not that, if that has any affect.

Might be worth checking which background tasks are running, especially virus scanners, which will slow things down. Also, try increasing the minimum paging file size (WinXP) to reduce on-the-fly resizing (say 2 GB min). Can't think of much else if its only the game that loads slowly and all else is ok.

Nic, I did what you said and it didn't make any difference. Every other game I've got loaded, loads pretty fast. I'm doing RTCW again and it will load a level in 5 to 10 seconds. Other games maybe not quite that fast, but not abnormaly slow. I guess it's not really a problem, since I'm finished with the game, it's just a puzzle why it does this and I'd like to fix it.

It certainly baffles me. Sorry I can't help further (maybe swapping to an AMD processor will speed things up a little).

I played RTCW all the way through (one of the few games I actually finished) and it was pretty hard. Fantastic game, and scary too.

AMD Nic? In your dreams, hehe. Yeah I know everybody here likes AMD. By the way RTCW is pretty hard in places. I don't like the supernatural areas, they are the hardest I guess. Wish they would have stayed with just straight warfare. I'm playing on the hard setting and it's a b***h. Actually I'm playing SOF II also, kind of going back and forth.

Im a fan of the orginal unreal which blew my mind in terms of gameplay and graphics at the time of release. The graphics are breathtaking and run sweetly on my amd 2400+ overclocked to 2700+ with 512 ddr pc3200 RAM and Geforce 4ti 4200. I dont believe the gameplay is as fun as unreal 1 as the levels are more linear and the story line is not as complex. The textures are not as good as unreal tournament 2003. I am glad to see the return of the skaarj but what happend to the nali! Some hilights of the game are the weaponery and the AI of your fellow marines working together to blow away the alien lifeforms!

ok..this thread is probably dead a long time ago...but i just have to say it, if you wanna see good physics, Play Half-Life 2 as it is the best...if you thought the creature rolling down a hill was cool you should see the combine (HL2 enemies) get shot off of a bridge and fall into the water and float there...it is awsome.

Probably dead a long time ago? There hasn't been a post in this thread for exactly four years today. It died a LONG time ago, and most of the people who posted here probably A) have played Half-Life 2, B) seen Half-Life 2, or C) are not users of Techspot.com anymore.

This game was very mediocre. Even for its time I don't feel it was really up to par in all aspects. If you are really bored it may be worth buying cheaply (10 max). Although really there are too many other great games that this one should be ignored. Also avoid Pariah, it's much worse than Unreal II
