I just installed Mandrake Linux 9, and have a Alcatel Speedtouch USB modem with Bellsouth DSL. I also have a regular 56k US Robotics external modem that I can use for dialup.

I've been doing some reading on how to get the Alcatel Speedtouch USB modem working in Linux, but I think I am going to need some help. I have very limited knowledge in Linux (only what I learned in college from a basic Linux class and even though I was the top student in that class my knowledge is still very limited).

If anyone has any direct knowledge on how to do this and can point me in the right direction I would very much appreciate it.

Also, if you can at least get me going with some dialup using my 56K US Robotics external that would be at least something. Not DSL but hey it would get me started. I work for the ISP who I am going to be connecting to. We have never had anyone connect with Linux so I will be the first and really have no idea how to do it. I've setup a dialup connection and have connected but Linux sits at "Logging into network".

Basically it isn't as hard as you think if you are using Mandrake, since it has it all set up for the Speedtouch.
You can select it in MandrakeControl center in the network bit via the connection wizard.
Basically all you need to do is copy the .so file into the location specified.

Yea, I've been there, but that information is slightly confusing for me. I'm having to decide what parts of that information to use and not to use.
