Linux kernel gets update
Updated code for the heart of current Linux products was released Friday, in the first major revamp to the kernel since November.
Linus Torvalds and the main Linux developers issued the update to the latest stable version of the 2.4-series Linux kernel. The release, version 2.4.21, adds support in the open-source operating system for a host of new devices and corrects software flaws. It also incorporates support for Advanced Micro Devices' 64-bit Opteron processor. Read more: CNet News. |

The kernel is running absolutely fine. And absolutely nothing is different. I think unless you have a problem that this new kernel could fix, don't bother really (unless you are very comfortable with kernel compiles.)
To be honest, I think that what I am really waiting for is the 2.6 kernel. odd numbers are development and even is stable, so right now we have 2.5 which I guess is a lot of ideas about what 2.6 might be like. I have been downloading 2.5 recently and looking at it and its very nice. |

After consulting the change logs, I see that there are some changes that are worh implimenting - but only if you need them. There might be some new drivers and I will be looking again shortly to see if there are any new ones for my on board IDE RAID controller, which needs some help to work well in Linux.
