Hynix takes a hit in the memory wars

A complaint by American memory manufacturer Micron that the South Korean government subsidised memory manufacturers could cost Hynix millions of dollars has been upheld by the Department of Commerce.

The Commerce Department confirmed today that tariffs of nearly 45 per cent will be levied on imports of DRAM (dynamic random access memory), and the tariff taxi meter could start running in early August.

That could well mean that Hynix, already struggling under a huge burden of debt, will have to pay millions to the US government.
