Best data recovery program?

What's the best one? And alternative FREE ones? My windows just crashed & I tried the recovery disc which pretty much just re-installed the entire OS. Notebook PC btw... I had a lot of important files I need to recover...

O&O file recovery not free
the more you play around more data will be lost

Yeah I knew. But I had to install a recovery program to get back as much as I could. Thanks everyone.
