New DVDn may allow for multiple endings to films

OK, you know how I have the Star Wars obsession, yeah? Well, many is the time over the years that I'd wished that there was a version of "The Empire Strikes Back" that had an alternate ending, where Luke did turn to the Dark Side. I often wished that there was - somehow - a DVD version of the movie that could play with an alternative ending - one that changed the whole course of the plot from then on, all acted and directed with the same passion as the original.

Well, it appears that the entertainment industry has had the same idea.

"Imagine it was Kate Winslet's character that died at the end of Titanic, rather than Leonardo DiCaprio's. Or that Luke had joined his father on the dark side of the Force. How would these events have changed the course of the characters' respective movies? The technology is called DVDn, or "DVD to the Nth degree," as DKP's vice-president of business development, John Morch, calls it. The idea is similar to the choose-your-own-adventure books that became popular in the 1980s — a reader would follow the story until a certain point, whereupon he or she would be asked to make a choice. Each choice would require turning to a different page, and the story would continue, branching in a new direction."

More and more, I believe that we are standing on the cusb of a time where computer games and movies will merge. Just look at The Matrix Reloaded, it was almost like watching a computer game being played, and I was practically screaming out in the movie theatre for a joypad. Now, imagine a whole new generation of movie - a whole new type of entertainment model - films for the DVD age - where the viewer could influence and control the flow and direction of the story....

Well, apparently, its coming...

This could be quite an intresting development - except for one thing... What happens when they have a sequel to a film???
Like if Luke Skywalker did (in one ending) turn to the dark side then what happens when they bring out the sequel??? A different sequel to every ending???

I've had a DVD player since they were introduced several years ago (before the DVD vs. DIVX war).

DVD players were developed with alternate audio, & visual options... so you could have an edited sound-track, or even pick-your-own movie rating when watching a flic with the family...

Hollywood has just been slow getting around to using the technology which has existed since the begining.

Does your DVD controller have an ANGLE selection? There are several movies where alternate endings are available within the special features (like directors who weren't sure which ending until after the filming was finished)...

Adult movie industry has been the first in some DVD technologies, such as multiple angles, so I wouldn't be surprised if they would be the first ones to use this.

Something the books had was the fact you were the main character... Making it interactive.

Unfortunately, no good movies will have this.

That would be funny, but seriously...how many endings can there really be for a porn? I think we all know the ending is usually the same no matter what.

I can't really see this happening for mainstream movies at least. I guess porn will be the first to take advantage of it. A certain paths you get offered choices;
Doorbell rings, is it - A. Delivery girl. B. Pizza girl............

Think the whole idea behind multiple porn endings would be add to the viewability of it before you get tired, I mean you can only watch the same porn a certain amount of times before it loses its magic.

Well, I think that that depends what porn you are talking about. Some of the stuff you see on the internet there is no need for.
