AOL Firewall interferes with HP OfficeJet Install
Hi All,
Wanted to share this solution to a problem that cost me many hours of frustration, ending with a simple solution. What: Windows XP Installer for HP OfficeJet All-In-One (AIO) Multifunction Printer/Copier/Fax/Scanner Model: 5610 (this solution may apply to all OfficeJet AIO's) O/S: Windows XP Description of Problem: HP Installer completes but fails to detect the USB printer. AOL Firewall blocked part of the HP installer and no notice is produced, which results in a non-functional driver for the HP printer. Solution: (assume HP software has been installed, and printer is connected) 1. run > msconfig (launch msconfig) 2. click services tab 3. click "hide all ms services" 4. click "disable all" 5. click "apply" 6. click "ok" 7. restart the computer Basically all the above does is stop the AOL services and allows the printer to setup. Check the Control Panel for Printers & Faxes, you should see the HP OfficeJet listed as a printer. Try a test print. Finally ... 1. run > msconfig 2. click normal startup 3. ok 4. restart the computer done !
