External hard drive help

I just connected a new Maxtor external hard drive and I noticed that it doesn't appear in My Computer. I went into disk management and the drive is in there (it say's its online) but it says it's "unallocated". Any help would appreciated and thank you in advance.

Since it's new, it's probably not partitioned and formatted yet. Try to right-click on the drive in Disk Management and select 'create partition', then right-click again and select 'Format'.
