Can't start in safe mode

Any other ideas about what to do when one can't even start in "safe mode". My computer flashes to the desk top and then goes right back to the welcome screen. Does this sound like a hardware problem or some sort of virus.

It is possible you have a virus or some such. Let`s check to see.
