How do I transfer Sims 2 to an external hard drive and play it directly from there?

Hello!
I have transferred every file I could find on Sims 2 to the external hard drive, but when I go to play it on another computer from the external hard drive, it wants to install it. My ultimate goal is just to remove it from the original computer and be able to play it directly from the external.
I can not find anything on how to transfer programs through online searches but I have heard of transferring programs to externals before, please help!

theres more to running games than the programs and the files themselves, you also have registry keys, and entries. your best bet would be to backup you saves and then to reinstall the games on the new harddrive, and then restore your saves.
