PowerMac G5 not Windows friendly for now

Apple Computer's new Power Mac G5 may be the fastest Macintosh around, but it is less able than its predecessors to run Microsoft Windows software.
That's because Virtual PC, the leading emulation program for running Windows on a Mac, doesn't support the G5. Microsoft, which acquired Virtual PC from Connectix in February, said a fix for the problem is not around the corner.

The new version of Virtual PC is expected within a year, about the same time as the launch of Office 11, the next version of Office for the Mac. More details can be found at CNet News.

And while we are at the Mac subject, Ars Technica posted today their Macintosh Browser Smackdown. OS X's bundled IE (old version) doesn't cut it anymore when you have other choices like Apple's own Safari, Mozilla & Opera.

Pretty predictible. Microsoft acquires VirtualPC from Connectix. Apple releases new G5 processor, Microsoft says "nah we don't want to make it work for you yet - why don't you go out and buy PC and buy WindowsXP Professional"

You are right and that was a smart move from MS, while Apple was left in the air. An even smarter move would have been Apple acquiring Connectix years ago and securing some Windows compatibility... that's another way to see things.
