In most of my programs, the change/remove in the Add/Remove programs in control panel is not there. Can someone help me get it back.

It just started a week ago.
New installed programs show up fine, but any older programs do not have any Change/Remove buttons.
edit kitty500cat already posted this in her kitty500cat sneaky way - oh well
Did your post help?
Cats are sneaky...however, I'm a guy.CCT said:edit kitty500cat already posted this in her kitty500cat sneaky way - oh well

Add/remove programs worked perfectly yesterday, I uninstalled Yahoo Browser Services and now the remove buttons are all gone. Uggh! Thank you very much for posting this, it narrowed my search for the source of the problem down in a matter of minutes. I have Norton Unerase Wizard, which I am trying to use to find the deleted keys. I have searched for "registry entries", but it didn't find them the lost uninstall keys. What type of file should I be looking for?
I'm a bit chagrined here, because I did it to my roommate's computer. She did give me permissioon to uninstall Yahoo, but I feel bad because she wouldn't have done it if I hadn't suggested it.
Thanks for any help,
Coyote

- If you want to be certain to CYA before you attempt recovery (always a good idea) I'd advise you back up/clone the drive first. I use Acronis True Image v10. There is 15day download free trial but if you do the download you need to build a recovery CD first (so even if it all goes south you can always boot and recover from CD) or buy the CDs from a box retailer which will include the recovery CD in addition to installation CD
- I know the key name in the registry but not the file names affected to try and use Norton Unerase. (Nor if that's sufficient to allow you to recover. Sorry) And remember the registry is quite tricky. Even if there was an Unerase file to restore, it will change many registry values back to that point in time including those that SHOULDN'T be changed back and leave you in worse shape then you are now).
- I did find, in my case, i could recover by using System Recovery to try to restore to a point BEFORE you did the uninstall. Programs->Accessories->System Tools->System Restore. You can check Restore my Comptuer to Earlier Time and then click Next to see a calendar of save restore points and how far back they go. The catch
- Remember, as the system builds a new restore point it will overwrite older ones if it needs the space. So you have limited time to try this option and try the restore points you have before being eventually overwritten
- This worked in my case but there's no guarantee it will get it restored (a restore can fail. Look for the success for fail messsage from Windows when done). Remember, restore points aren't a system backup but a save of critical system areas to give it a good attempt to restore if need be)
