Judge has barred Vonage from seeking new customers

April 06, 2007 (IDG News Service) -- A U.S. District Court judge has barred
voice-over-IP provider Vonage from seeking new customers in a patent
infringement case, according to news reports.

District Judge Claude Hilton two weeks ago agreed to bar the company from
using Internet phone call technology patented by Verizon Communications Inc.

At the time, however, he said he would delay signing the order to give Vonage
time to try to convince him to stay the injunction while it appeals the entire patent infringement case.

System specs
So does this mean a precedent has been set and now all companies must pay royalties or go out of business?

I am just thinking because I use Charter VOIP and I know that AT&T also sells VOIP gear. Also companies like Siemens also sell VOIP phone switches like the one we have at work. It just seems like to me that these guys want to hold the entire industry up for ransome.

It is not like no one else has ever sent a communication over an IP Address.
