OSX applications problem

Hi All....

When clicking on applications in the HD toolbar, the page is blank that used to display my apps. They have somehow been moved down past the jump. When I scroll down to try to access them, I get the spinning beachball and after a minute or two the page quits. I can't get to my app icons to use them. Any ideas? I'm spending a lot of time with spinning beachballs and no results. G4 iMac 512ram 80gig Newbie here. Thank you for your help.

open the HD icon on your desktop. On the left are the list of common locations,
eg Desktop, userloginid, Applications, Documents, Movies, Music, Pictures

On the right (using a list view, not the icon view) is a tree view of all the folders.

Next to Applications, on its immediate left, is a small arrow pointing right.
Click on it once; it will rotate to point down. You should see all kinds of
programs there. IF SO, you need to fix your ICON view;

First change the view to ICONs,
then use view menu again to ARRANGE (by name, date, whatever you please)
