That laptop is crap of course but if you want something cheap for only a year, then it will probably do.

If that is your budget, guess you have to do what you have to do. But as said, that is a really crappy laptop. With only 512 on the memory, I think its gonna run like a slug in winter time. "I" would get at least 1gig of memory. But then again that one has Vista Basic you are looking at, I have been running Premium.

If at all possible spend $400 on a desktop. If you can find a free case and reuse a monitor from something you can build a much higher end system than that laptop.
