Installing windows 98 on a external hard drive
When my old computer crashed i bought myself a "NexStar External 3.5" Hard Drive Enclosure USB Interface" to store my old 10GB hard drive and now I am wondering if it would be possible to load Window 98 onto this external hard drive to run some old programs of mine. Is this possible? If so could someone give me nice detailed instructions?
Thanks. |

I suppose it could work in theory..
Your BIOS has to support booting from USB. You would have to put DOS on that drive first (with CD-ROM and high memory support) and boot from it to have the USB drive appear as the first hard drive. (I have done this part myself before) From inside DOS you would run the Win98 setup (and pray that it works). A problem: - Win98 has USB support, so it may want to reset the USB bus at one point. This will make the hard drive "disappear". Win2k and XP happily BSOD when this happens. No idea how 9x would behave |

Seldom works. You really need to know your stuff to find success.
