Microsoft Outlook 2003 very slow opening emails

Hi
I am having a problem with Microsoft Outlook 2003. It is very slow opening emails, sometimes taking 5-8 seconds to open. I recently had some problems with my PC downloading and installing microsoft updates but this seems to be sorted now. I have tried to repair Outlook but to no avail.
Please help!!

Do you have some AV scanning them before opening?

launch Outlook and the verify how many folders and files in each folder
(check the sent folder too).

the more you keep, the worse it gets!

Hi
I havent changed my virus settings (outlook has been running fine up till a few days ago). I emptied all my folders of mail.

Its odd as sometimes the emails open quick as usual, then other times its very slow. Im thinking of uninstalling Office and reinstalling the lot!

Outlook and HTML e-mail

I'm having the same problem, and it appears that most plain text messages open normally, but e-mail in HTML is VERY slow.
Anyone else notice this?

HTML takes time to process! Worse, OE and Outlook itself share components
with the IE browser -- which says many IE security issues will also apply to
OE and Outlook! MAKE SURE you're up to date with MS security patches.

Reset IE Explorer

I reset the settings in Internet Explorer (Advanced Settings), and it appears to have fixed the problem. I'm using IE 7.0.
