There are tons of fps games out there that will let you play online. CS is popular, BF2, Quake4, Unreal Tournament, etc, etc....
If you're looking for FREE games, I can't help you there.

I would recommend spending the $30 to just get Counter-Strike: Source. If you want to play a great first person shooter, get CSS!
