Windows Explorer keeps restarting
I restarted my computer and now Windows Explorer keeps crashing. On startup I get a pop up message saying Windows Explorer has stopped and asks me to restart it, and when I do I get the same thing. Its an endless loop. I can go in and manually stop explorer.exe in task manager and then use task manager to access programs on the computer. Like right now, I can surf the net, but I don't have a start menu or desktop icons. Here is the error message I found in Manage My Computer.
Faulting application Explorer.EXE, version 6.0.6000.16386, time stamp 0x4549b091, faulting module ckimzeb.dll_unloaded, version 0.0.0.0, time stamp 0x4667f107, exception code 0xc0000005, fault offset 0x10001984, process id 0xa80, application start time 0x01c7aad760345c70 - System - Provider [ Name] Application Error - EventID 1000 [ Qualifiers] 0 Level 2 Task 100 Keywords 0x80000000000000 - TimeCreated [ SystemTime] 2007-06-09T20:47:27.000Z EventRecordID 1916 Channel Application Computer Josh-PC Security - EventData Explorer.EXE 6.0.6000.16386 4549b091 ckimzeb.dll_unloaded 0.0.0.0 4667f107 c0000005 10001984 a80 01c7aad760345c70 I found a post here from a couple weeks back concerning a similar issue, and I've tried what momok suggested to that issue, but nothing has worked. I've used LSPFix, Spy Bot, HijackThis, AVG AntiVirus, AVG Anti Rootkit, AVG Antispyware, Ad Ware SE, Vundo Fix, Registry Repair Pro, Trend Micro House Call, and all troubleshooting techniques that I know. A lot of files have been found and deleted but nothing fixes the original problem. One problem I found is I can't run HijackThis in safe mode. It keeps telling me to reboot the system before I can use it. There about 21 entries in HijackThis that come up when I run it in normal mode, and after I fix them, they come right back on the next scan. The log file from that is attatched to this post. Just saw another program that might help. Combofix. If anyone out there can help me out I'd appreciate it. |

For anyone concerned, I have found the fix. There is a file C:Windows\System32\ckimzeb.dll that needed to be deleted. There is also two other files that might be present. For more info refer to

To delete a file in that case...
When system is running and logged in,
1) Open task manager (right click on toolbar which constains Start button) 2 In File menu, select New Task(Run..) 3) type cmd 4) in cmd prompt cd C:\<full_path_to_dir_which_has_files_to_be_deleted> and press Enter 5) type del <file_name_to_be_deleted> and press Enter |
