Providing the previous owner registered the laptop and you know his name and address then you can use the online form that dell have for changing ownership to yourself, however if he didnt register it then you cant.

I understand (and always have) Dells refusal to help anyone who has bought a second hand laptop and cant prove ownership, its all to do with those of us who have a stolen laptop, and want access to it, I DONT like it and never have but I understand the thinking behind it, which is why along with paragon33 I developed the site and help where I can.

It works on the same principal of taking goods back to a store that you know are stolen and then expecting cash for the goods and getting a credit note.

As for those who hope Rustam will appear or believe that he is going to allow me access to his code generator then im sorry to say but you will be waiting a long time, He WONT ever hand it over to me, god knows I have tried.

However I will still keep on trying in the vain hope that he does relent one day and pass it on to me.

You can have mine if you like it wont work though, each code goes with each service tag.

Caveat emptor - let the buyer beware. Dell will honour warranty and provide help as long as you know the original owner name and the ship address of the unit and have a bill of sale, invoice or receipt with the TAG on it. You may need to fax the paperwork to Dell TS.

There is always one that no matter how hard you try you just cant get them to understand...

WTF69WTF, listen i'll say this slowly,

YOU
CANT
GET
A
CODE
FOR
YOUR
SERVICE TAG

Have you got it now ???????

You need to use the shorting method as described on the site....

Regards
(apologies to those who feel this is unnecessary)

Sorry
I guess i will have to wait for rustam_ to come back some day

i don't think that there is a pic for the eeprom chip for the Latitude D620. I dont think the eeprom chip on the D620 is even labeld the same way the older models are labeled like 24xx or somthing.

Sorry and Thanks

Hi, after a bit of support if possible.

A mate has given me his Dell Latitude L400 as he's given up with it.

It doesn't seem to boot up properly, I've got the passwords, well it accepts the password, but the screen just goes black with a blinking cursor.

I can go into the BIOS and change everything apart from the Boot menu as it says only Administrators.

Can't seem to select a boot start up by pressing F12 as it just goes to the black screen with a blinking cursor again.

So due to the above, I can't load a floppy disk or a cd to try and reinstall everything

Helpppppppppp

Thanks in advance if anyone can offer some suggestions

the thing is, that the in new Dell notebooks the password stored in the EC/KBC chip. the shorting method is useless because there is no eeprom on the mobo. the following notebooks: inspiron 640m, inspiron 6400,all xps are WITHOUT eeprom.

sorry if i am taking too much space on this thread. i just thought it would be better to but an accusal image instead of a link to an other website to view the images. sorry once again.

25p80vg - is the serial data flash. the notebook bios stored in this chip. don't do shorting with it!

D620

Hi Guys, As above i got a Dell Latitude D620, have dissassembled & discovered that I have a 25P80VG EEPROM.

Also that it is NOT advisable to try and erase this ROM.

Service Tag ends in 595B so the password generators wont work.

Just to clarify, do i have a doorstop, or is the last chance to plead to the Godly Rustam to see if he can generate me an Admin Pass?

WereWolfie619, the 25p80vg is NOT eeprom! it's a serial data flash, the notebook bios stored in this chip. if you "short" it - you'll destroy your MB!

Shortening Method will not work with this model.

-> I am aware of this already.

I was just wondering, seeing as the asset tag ends in 595B, so the password generator will not work, what my options are?

Is there any other way to reset the admin password or get the admin password for these boards?
