perhaps, I don't know.. the interface with the nforce2 chips, the usb headers and the apacer thingy is strange though. I guess the best thing to do is to plug it into another usb2.0 motherboard and see what it does then...
of course i only know one other person who has usb2.0 motherboard and he has the same as me ![]() Ok well, i'll fiddle... I guess the answer to my original question about fixes, is : no, there is not yet a good fix (the abit one for some perhaps..) thanx anyways |

OK, I tried setiting it at 9, 10 & 11 but still got the blue screen of death (although not as frequently as before).
I ran memtest. I left it on for over 21 hours & then read on their site that it keeps cycling so I turned it off after nearly 22 hours I don't really unstand what it's saying. Maybe it will make more sense to you? ![]() Does it mean my memory is faulty or not? I'm guesing not as they work fine when I don't use any in slot 1 (just use it in 2 & 3) & I've switched them around & all seem fine when used it slots 2 & 3. I'm pretty dissapointed as I bought the Kingston memory because it says it's compatible with my board

The last thing you could check is running a memtest while having memory on Slot 1 & 2 or even on Slot 1 by itself. If you get errors it might be a faulty memory slot.
BTW you seem to be running an old version of memtest. Also make sure you configure memtest to run an extended test. It tests the memory in a more thorough manner. |

Hi,
Brand spanking new to the forum. I have specs that are very very similar to yours. WinXP, AMD Athlon XP 2800+, Asus A7N8X 2x512 DDR400 Kingston KVR400X64C3A/512, 128MB Sapphire Radeon 9600XT, WD 80G. Thermaltake Wingo Xaser V case. Thermaltake 420W Purepower PSU As this was the first time I put a computer together.. I've been largely dependant on the helpful advice of those that came before me. It was very helpful and I finally got my system put together after a while. I got XP installed and all was fine, but then noticed random reboots and program exits due to bad memory. It would especially love to exit programs during times of graphical chaos on the screen (FPS when the action heats up) which was really annoying.. After researching a bit. I noticed that nothing really worked until I set the FSB and the mem to be clocked at same speed. I also changed the cpu frequency and the mem frequency to be both at 166 Mhz and changed the system to run in aggressive mode. I just did this last night and my comp didn't crash once the whole night even after running the benchmark 3DMark test. I will run memtest tonight to see if I can get the thing to crash. I have mem installed into channels 1 & 3. My main question is: Is the A7N8x board compatible with Kingston KVR400X64C3A/512 memory? I've been searching the forums and have been hearing conflicting messages. What is extra discouraging is that ASUS support pages don't explicitly state that this memory is compatible (but rather another model) that seems to have problems too. Can anyone shed light? I have 2 days left from the store to return this mem to exchange it.. Thanks in advance for your help!! |

I can run 2 pieces no problem (I'm runing it in slots) 2 & 3. But I have 3 pieces of it & when I put all 3 in my PC crashes frequently. I'm still trying to sort it out so I can use all 3 pieces

I have that exact same RAM and have had issues with it as well. I just took back my RAM too
. Oh well. So would it make a difference if it was C25 model RAM? If so I guess I might have to trade up. |

Rahabib,
can I ask what memory you ended up going with? I have been negotiating with my computer store and they said that I could use KingMax generic memory.. but I would like to do mild overclocking with my machine and am sure that that will just not do. After haggling with their RMA dept for a while, they asked me to run memtest some more.. and to see if there is a defect with the modules. If I find something.. I'll let everyone know. I'll probably post a pic or something.. of the errors I'm seeing. Thanks! Thanks! |

So everyone,
I ran Memtest86+ for about 2 hrs and during the 2nd pass on test 5 the errors started to show. I took the memory back and exchanged it for some Cosair valueram as it was the same price as the Kingston ram. Ran memtest in extended mode for about 13 hrs with no errors at all. I'm leaning more towards incompatibility of the Kingston RAM with the ASUS board vs. a true memory error as the technician in the store tested my memory with a MSI board with the same processor that I had and didn't find any problems. Hope that helps anyone experiencing the same problem I did. In general.. pretty disappointed with Kingston and the ASUS board for both being so picky given both are very mainstream products. Regards, |

I updated the Ram post with the serial number of the Kingston ram that seems to be giving problems.
FOOOD seems to be having problems only when all 3 memory slots are populated though. So I cannot say if it's completely incompatible or only under certain circumstances. |

I am still working out the details with my local company. So far I am thinking of moving over to Samsung which is not as good but OCing isnt a concern and Ill get a little money back. Apparently they dont make 512 C25 Kingston or I would try doing that. They are supposed to give me a call today and let me know what they can do for me. They are also looking into the compatibility problem with the A7N8X to see if it is compatability or just faulty memory.
As far as compatability, I only had 2 in and it didnt work. I tried upping the voltage which helped a bit but also returned errors. So It very well could be that Kingston just had a bad batch of RAM, its hard to say. |

Funny development...
The company said there wasnt a C25 model 512 dimm. I went to Kingston's website and found there was. I also see the C3 model listed as compatable with no astrixes or anything. When I brought it up to the company I was working with he said its because the A7N8X wasnt a good board and gave some lame excuse how I should move to MSI. At first I thought they were trying to upsell me but in fact It would be cheaper to go to MSI for a crappier board. I am not sure what they are trying to do really. They said that they would give me the difference. I think in the end they had an issue returning the RAM although they wont admit it due to the inflated RAM prices since I first bought it (like 30 bucks cheaper when I bought it). They offered to take back the ASUS board (I think they were planning to just resell it) and pay me the difference. These guys are so lame. They are going to contact Kingston again and try to get the RAM RMAd so I can just swap out the RAM. I am going to just try the C3 again. if it doesnt work then Ill they said they can swap for another brand if they have to but I have to do this first. Ill let you know what happens. Funny stuff! Crooks! |

bus disconnect
Hi, I am having problems with my computer restarting. I think that it is because my cpu is overheating. I have the newest deluxe model of this mobo and I have a athlon xp +3000. Could it be because I do not have the bus disconnect enabled? Or would getting the latest drivers from nvidia help? I am going to replace my psu to see if that fixes it too.

Are you monitoring your temps with a software of some sort ? Asus Probe, Motherboard Monitor ?
Have you tried using the system with the case open ? |

temp
I use asus probe and my regular cpu temp seems to stay at 49c and goes up to around 60 to 61c under heavy use. I have not taken my side off, but I have 6 fans in there plus my tornado 11+

Ok a bit more info.
The company slapped in the RAM into a test system and found the RAM works fine. However in the A78NX they cant get it to work unless they turned the timings down. Also, I found out the reason they were acting wierd is because Kingston wouldn't take it back. Since they found it worked they are just going to put it into another system since it works and it still has most of the warranty with it. And I am getting another brand that they will test before giving it to me. Let it be a warning that Kingston Value400 512 Latency 3 has issues with the A7N8X and wont run at full FSB 400 (200). |

Re: temp

It is still worth trying to use your system with the case open in order to remove the heat factor. If it still craches, it is thus not a heat problem. Arclite, what seems to be the problem ? If the SATA controller is enable with the o,board jumper, after the POST, there will be a minute or two during which the SATA controller will detect SATA drives. Do you get a message saying that no hard-drives were found ? |

re:temp
I have Q-Temp disabled. I also opened my case all last night and the temp did not change at all. When it was under heavy load it would stay at 55c and if I then ran another program after 30 minutes or so, sometimes longer, my computer would crash. Also when I run a power hungry game like UT 2004 my computer will crash after about an hour sometimes shorter and then allow me to restart and it will run fine.
I disabled automatic restart so that I could see the blue screen error and it seemed to be different each time my computer crashed. Thanxs for your help. -ATray |

try stress testing your computer. Monitor your power via Asus Probe, make sure it doesn't leave the 5% range. MDM has an issue with the board I have found so it will always error when it shouldnt so use Asus Probe.
Prime95 is a good stress tester, run the CPU test first for atleast 12 hours and if it passes run the "Blend" test to test your RAM. I had similar problems and it turned out to be my RAM (see above). If you suspect its the RAM run MemTest86+ doing all BIOS tests. The board is a bit finicky so you have to be carefull to check everything. Hope this helps. |
