Chkdsk Utility
OK, so I got a message saying that C:\Windows\Prefetch\PCARMDRV.xe-39A02017.pf was corrupt or unreadable and I need to run CHKDSK UTILITY. So I did, I went to run, entered cmd and ran chckdsk c: /f /r YA that didn't work it says
The type of the file system is NTFS. Cannot Lock Current drive. Chkdsk cannot run because the volume is in use by another process. Would you like to schedule this volume to be checked the next time the system restrts Y/N I say Y and then when it restarts it says it can't because it is NTSF and cannot open volume for direct access and then restarts normally. Even if I just run Chkdsk c: this is read only starts to delete this corrupt file then after 2 of 3 it stops and says Index verification completed. Errors found. CHKDSK cannot continue in read-only mode. So then I try just C: /f and that gives me the whole file system is NTFS BLAH BLAH! What do I do? Tarin |

If you indeed use the Linksys software mentioned, uninstall it and reboot, clean all your temp files out, defrag and then reinstall. edit: and PLEASE post in one category only - you take up valuable storage space and my and other peoples time double posting. |

I wasn't sure how it worked and didn't know for sure what category to post it under.
