USB ports no longer work on AW9D...help!

urgent advice appreciated here folks.

I built a core2quad rig for 3d rendering with an Abit AW9D Max board on XP Pro 64-bit 2 months ago.
Yesterday everything was fine. Today none of the usb ports are responding in the way i'd like.
The 2 case ports on the front don't work.
The usb keyboard & mouse stopped working as did the usb dongle we use for vray rendering.

I've done a system restore to early yesterday, no luck.
I've deleted all the usb devices in device manager, rebooted and let it re-install them. Still no joy.
Overclockers tech support, suggest a reformat, but is there anything else you guys could suggest, as i really don't want to reformat yet due to time constraints. It may even be hardware which means RMA'ing it for a weeks downtime.

reconnect your USB wires internally. Ensure your BIOS is up to date.
After that it has to either be a bad wire(s) or faulty mobo.

Sounds like the USB controller chip died.
