Help with LAPTOP!

I have a Dell Inspiron 5100, I was surfing the internet like i normally do and all of a sudden my touch pad stopped working, I was a little upset but went about saving my stuff so i could restart the computer, to try and see if thats all it needed. Anyways when i went to restart the computer, it would not allow me to. I had to manually hard restart it, yet when i press the button again to have it start up, it would just turn on for a bit like it was going through check, nothing would pop up on the screen and it would just turn off.
Now! its keeps doing this, every time i try to turn the laptop on it will turn on for a while and then turn right back off.
Any suggestions on how to fix this?!
Thanks in advance!

you have the dead EC/KBC controller. this is typical problem for this series of dell laptops. you'll have to replace the MB, or replace the KBC controller from the same laptop.
