ok so I hope this is the right forum to post this topic in. If not, I apologize.
Anyway I had to recently dump my system and start over with a clean slate. I got everything re-installed. I'm running Windows XP Home Edition. However my speakers are not working and I'm guessing its because I need to install the drivers for the audio hardware in my computer. It is the factory hardware. and every time I try installing the drivers for it, I get an ikernel.exe error. I've looked everywhere online for help and I've tried almost everything to fix it, but I'm still getting the same error.
Its saying I'm missing the ikernel.exe file and it cannot be found. Is there some way I can download the ikernel.exe file online? or what else can I do?

iKernel.exe is part of the InstallShield application. Maybe there is something wrong with the installer. Also, try making sure you have the most up-to-date Windows Installer from Microsoft's website.

If you could provide the exact error,that would be useful.

Meanwhile,two random googles -

1.Go to Program files\Common files\Installshield\engine\6\intel32\

and click on IKernel.exe,then try to install your programs.

OR slightly contradictory,

2.Delete the INTEL32 folder + all temporary files and disable any Anti virus programs,and

make sure IKernel.exe is not already running in memory.

You might back up that folder before deleting it.

well I think I figured out the problem. the problem is that I'm actually missing the ikernel.exe file and I don't know how to recover it.

You will find more specific information about this in the Event Viewer, depending on which OS you're using:

Follow this path:
Control Panel> Administrative Tools> Event Viewer> Click on System & Apps, one at a time on the left> look for Errors on the right> right click error> Properties> note description of error, Event# and Source.

There is a "copy" button below the up/down arrows. Click that, then go to any place that allows you to type (ie. notepad, wordpad, this Forum) and you can paste (use CTRL-V) the entire event details there. It makes for easy reporting of the event.

If you want to paste the Errors here, you do not need to include all the lines of code that follow the Description-but do include the description.
