I can record sound files from the internet with easy recorder, and the files are saved in mp3 format but no sound comes out although the indicator bar in itunes or media player acts like it is playing the file. It used to work just fine but doesn't now. OS is XP.

Check for spyware. I recommend using the following 3 anti-spyware utils:

• Ad-Aware 2007
• Spybot Search & Destroy
• AVG Anti-Spyware

All are free.

Have you been downloading music using peer-to-peer filesharing programs (i.e. Limewire, Kazaa, Ares, BearShare, ... ) ?

Thanks for the reply. I ran spybot and adaware. Cleaned out a bunch of spyware. I uninstalled and re-installed easy recorder. It appears to be saving the audio files OK, the icon goes on the desktop and opens OK in Windows media , real player, and itunes. The bar goes across as if it is playing but no sound comes out. Previously recorded audio files work fine, and other audio files work. Streaming files still come across OK. Any ideas? I really want to be able to record internet radio. I do not use peer to peer file sharing programs at all.

Does the same apply for all sound or just the music? The computer may beep etc...but you might need to download a sound driver.
