Is it possible this is not a software issue at all??? I've had an A215 model for 8 months with no screen issues then the other day it goes Black. I move the screen back and fourth a little bit and it flickers then comes back to life ( not for very long ). It seems as if the connector between the base and screen may just a bit loose.

I have yet to take it apart to verify this, but I thought I would throw this out there and see what everyone thinks.

BTW: This is the second A215 I have had. The first one crashed and crashed hard 11 times in 7 days. Took it back and got a replacement.

Any thoughts?

New laptops (less than 2 years old) seem to have much better/stronger LCD cables. Yes it is possible that a connector is loose, either from the motherboard or inside the LCD assembly itself... Your issue is not software related

Toshiba A15 Laptops need a BIOS update

I've had the same experience as 'Asknetguy'. I bought a Toshiba A215-4757 last September, and every so often the screen would go black and the only indication it wasn't totally off was the blue power light on the front left panel. It seemed to be a common problem after I had put the system into a sleep mode by closing the lid. The only way out of the problem was holding the power button down for 5 seconds.

I recently downloaded the BIOS update to V1.90 from the Toshiba web site, burned the update ISO image to a CD, and booted from the CD to install the updated BIOS. The update went smoothly, and, as they say, so far so good. Toshiba says this update is supposed to fix crashes of this sort, and I'm hopeful they are right. I recommend that everyone with a Toshiba A215-series machine download and apply this update, but CAREFULLY! You can turn your whole laptop into a paperweight if you screw up the installation of a BIOS update.

Issue with A215-S5849

I think the issue I am experiencing is similar to the first post in this thread.

I used my laptop last night and put it away when i was done. This morning, I can hear the fan, i THINK my laptop is on, but the screen is just black. I see the battery, processor light blinking. So i tried to hook it up to an external monitor just in case it was a monitor issue, but it wasn't.

HELP!

I would love to download the drivers, update memory, etc. but it won't even allow me to get to my desktop. How do I fix this?
I have unplugged it, turned it off, and taken the battery out so it can "rest". But I am unsure of what the exact problem is.

Anything will help right now!!

Thank you

Now its my time.

Well, I was using my laptop normally since I've bought it, about a year ago, I've upgraded the memory to 2GB in dual channel and it worked well until last week, when this damn black screen appear for the firs time. I was using it for 2 consecutive days, without stopping, downloading some stuff.
First I thought it might be a problem of overheating, then I found in some forums this problem of the bios, I upgraded it to version 2.0, but the problem continues. Sometimes it works sometimes not.
I detected that when I remove a memory module and turn the laptop on it works normally. After that when I return the other module and it turn on normally. But I just let it turned off for some time that the problem reappears.

If somebody could help me, or have any idea about what is this problem. Thanks.
For now I will take out and put in the memory module when I want to start my laptop.

Thanks all.

It is possible that the motherboard has died (or the video GPU). I have 2 Toshibas that needed the motherboards replaced for this reason, just in the last month

I also have a A215-S4747 which am now haviing random Blue Screen reset issues.
I upgraded the hard drive, memory, and DVD-RW drives. The Laptop worked perfectly
for several months after the upgrades and now it keeps doing random Blue Screens Of Death.
I re-installed Vista totally and this has not solved the problem at all. I dont have time to write down
the blue screen errors, but it seems that each one of them is different. The laptop is over 1 year old now and I have it at 4 gig RAM, 500GB HDD.
It almost seems like an overheating issue, but the CPU fan IS blowing air and this is NOT a Black sreen, but Blue Screens..

ANY HELP APPRECIATED..

Well Mr.Fixx the problem could be easy ive had a A215-S4747 for 2 years now i havent upgraded the first unit i had contained a dead pixel on screen which i had to replace but the problem with your unit random blue screens is probably because of the memory u have installed. The maximum the unit supports is 4gb but windows vista 32bit only supports around 3gb so try removing one of the memory cards u have installed if u stop getting blue screens then u should buy a 1gb card at the same speed PC25300 or 6400 if u have the orignal u can usee it if its PC2 5300 the same u bought if not they would not work as good together so u can buy PC2 6400 1gb or 5300 depending on what u have installed.

Hopefully this post works.

I haven't had any issues since I installed the latest BIOS update.
The sites that used to cause the black screen on my laptop are no longer affecting it.
Of course if this changes, I will return to post a sad face.

I also trimmed the URL to make it easier. Hopefully this solves the problem for others as well.
Same issue and updated mine on the link ASKNETGUY shared.
