We had a power cut this morning due to a digger cutting through the electricity cable in our drive. PC wasnt switched on at the time but now wont switch on. Have checked fuse that is fine.
Power cable is fine.
Anyone have any other ideas!
I have one very gutted teenage son!!!
Thanks

That power cut has probably damaged the PSU.
Cheap enough and easy to replace - as you have not said where you are I cannot recommend a supplier.

PSU test

How can we test if the Power supply unit is working in our PC?

We have no power to the PC at all following this power cut

emachines are known for having problems with their power supplies.
replace it as a matter of urgency - not joking - before it damages internal components.
They are usually to a common fitting but can vary according to model.
Please post the model number.
Does your PSU look anything like this?

if so this 300 watt is minimum output but would do for a light load domestic machine. Casecom are better than average.

Remove it, then short the green wire to any black one. That will tell you if it will fire up at least.

take a look at this tutorial: Suspect a Dead PSU? How to be sure

although if it is an emachines it's probably worth replacing your psu anyway

if your current power supply is about 300w then get the one that AlbertLionheart linked you to, it will be fine for general usage e.g. word processing and web surfing - possibly not for hardcore gaming ;)
