Installing HP C4280 on Mac OS X

I am trying to install an HP C4280 onto a Mac notebook running Mac OS X v. 10.4.9. It meets all requirements and the install goes alright. However, the setup assistant asks me to select a device from a list, but it doesn't recognize the printer as a device. I have tried the install with the printer powered both on and off, but still nothing. Any suggestions?

If you used the software on the disc, it may be outdated. Try the downloadable installer if this is the case. Otherwise, I'd say the printer's defective(or maybe the usb cable).

If you are still stuck tomorrow I'll offer up a real suggestion (not at my Mac right now). But just a quick question now, is there any reason you aren't using 10.4.10?

What does the Printer and Fax control panel in System Preferences say? Does the printer show up there?
